VILLAGE OF LA FARGE

Special Board Meeting         Monday, June 22, 2020

*President Cheryl Purvis called the special meeting of the La Farge Village Board to order at 6:30 p.m. at the Emergency Services building. Due to reducing transmission of COVID-19, participants were offered an On-Demand conference calling option.

Roll Call - Present at the meeting:

All Board Members: Cheryl Purvis, Frank Quinn, Terry Jensen, Barbara Melvin, Reggie Nelson, Aaron Nemec, and Aaron Appleman. Also Public Works Manager Wayne Haugrud, Police Chief Jonathon Brown, Attorney Jacob Menn, and Clerk Kimberly Walker.

Joining by conference calling: No one was on the line.

*Verification of meeting posting at the Bank, Post Office, and Village Office on June 19, 2020 was given.

*Action on tabled renewal of business alcohol licenses: Three businesses applied for the Class “B” Malt & Liquor license (“of which the village only has 2 to grant, unless the $10,000 fee is paid”). One of them appeared to not be in business and filed the renewal under a different business name than we had for the current license. A public hearing was held last Thursday on this, and when it came time for the hearing, Dino (Baschiera) handed Cheryl a letter saying he was rescinding his renewal application. Cheryl read the other application renewals:

Class “A” Malt & Liquor: Bergum’s Food Mart and Zzip Stop

Class “B” Malt & Liquor: Phil & Deb’s Town Tap and Twisted Raven Lounge, LLC

Class “B” Malt & Class “C” Wine: Organic Valley/CROPP Cooperative

Jensen moved, Quinn seconded to approve the licenses as read. (Carried).

*Quinn moved, Jensen seconded to approve a contract for consultant services between the Mississippi River Regional Planning Commission, Vierbicher Associates, Inc. and the Village of La Farge on the $200,000 EDA grant the village was awarded. (Carried). Cheryl explained our match (of $40,000) is covered by the Ho-Chunk funds we received.

*Nemec moved, Appleman seconded to convene into closed session, in accordance with Wisconsin State Statutes section 19.85 (1)(g), to confer with legal counsel for the governmental body who is rendering oral or written advice concerning strategy to be adopted by the body with respect to litigation in which it is or is likely to become involved. (Carried).

                 ***Closed Session***

*Jensen moved, Nemec seconded to return to open. (Carried).

*Nemec moved, Appleman seconded to adjourn. (Carried). Adjourned at 7:11 p.m.
