Lawton Memorial Library Board Meeting

Special Board Meeting            Tuesday, February 6, 2024

                                                                                                 

1). Chair Barbara Melvin called the special meeting to order at 1:00 p.m. at the Lawton Memorial Library. Roll call was taken with board members Melvin, Gail Muller, Georgia Everson, Carol Persons (via phone), and Kimberly Walker present. Absent was Donna Niles and Gwendolyn Hatfield. Also present was Librarian Lisa Ahler.                

                                                                                                           

2). Verification of posting at the Bank, Post Office, and Village Office on February 1, 2024, was given.            

                        

3). Discussed the cleaning position. Greg Lawton has been cleaning since last June, but has decided to resign, as he found it not financially reasonable for him to continue after filing his taxes. He took it to help us out, as we didn’t have anyone interested after the last time we advertised. The job doesn’t take taxes out of the pay, it’s a service a person provides, and anyone over $600 receives a 1099 form. 

 

*Discussed a few possible applicants that may be interested. If so, will ask them to fill out an application.

 

*The position will be advertised next week, for 1 week in the La Farge Episcope and the Epitaph-News newspapers, along with putting it on LAPA’s Facebook page, the village website, and the library website. The job is 2-3 hours per week, with pay at $18.00 per hour, with a possible increase after a 3-month probationary period. Application deadline is February 26th.   

 

*Barb and Lisa will review the applications and select ones to conduct interviews with. They are looking to review them on February 27th, with interviews on the 28th. Questioned if Lisa could hire as she oversees them or need a special board meeting to hire. Kim will check what process we did last time.   

    

4). Everson moved, Muller seconded to adjourn. (Carried). Adjourned at 1:36 p.m.
