What’s going on with the Main Street and Flood Recovery Projects?

Updated October 23, 2020

On August 21, 2020, we received word that La Farge has been awarded the $1 million grant for improvements on Main Street.

Currently, work has begun with our main contractor, Delta 3 surveying and checking the depth of the sewer lines along Main Street. The planning and designing is still being completed.

with the physical work to the street expected to begin in April 2021 and completing some time later that year.

For more information regarding the project, including the Vierbicher document from the planning project, click here.

The committee members working on the project include: Reggie Nelson, Deb Nelson, Maggie Becker, Nick Burnard and Kathy Appleman.

--------------------

The Economic Flood Recovery Committee has been formed to work on the planning grant from the EDA (Economic Development Administration).  Members of that committee include: Brad Stenimetz, Barb Melvin, Kris Gabrielson, Dean Steinmetz and Greg Lawton.

Topics of discussion so far have been building a levy to prevent further flooding and the identification of vacant land that is not located in the flood plain - that could be used for possible development in the years to come.  The first public meeting is scheduled for October 29th and will be held at the Emergency Services Building

Trick or Treating in La Farge  2020

Trick or Treating will be held this year in the village. The village board emphasizes following Covid precautions if going out. People can trick or treat at their own risk. Homes that are participating are encouraged to turn on a porch light. Please avoid houses with no lights.

There is no party at the school this year.

The Lion's Club is inviting parents to take photos of their children to put on the village website. If you would like to participate, please send them to vlglaf@mwt.net or melvin@mwt.net. in a .jpg format if possible.

Some safe tips for Trick or Treating include:

  • Give out treats outdoors, if possible.

  • Make your cloth mask part of your costume.

  • A costume mask is not a substitute for a cloth mask.

  • Do NOT wear a costume mask over a cloth mask. It can make breathing more difficult.

  • Masks should NOT be worn by children under the age of 2 or anyone who has trouble breathing

  • Stay at least 6 feet away from others who do not live with you

Lawton Memorial Library Notice:

Lawton Memorial Library is now providing curbside pickup and computer use by appointment for essential needs only.  This is due to La Farge being high risk for community spread - according to the Vernon County Health Department.

If you would like to request items, schedule curbside pickup or sign up for a computer appointment, please call (608) 625-2015.

We hope that this is a short term reduction in services and that we will be able to have people back in the library soon.

Meanwhile, Story Time videos are being shared each Tuesday and Take and Make Craft Bags are available at the library.  For more information go to the Lawton Memorial website.

The purpose of the Outdoor Recreation Plan is to identify issues, opportunities, needs and  organize public policy to address them in a manner that makes the best and most appropriate use of County resources. It will also describe a desired future for community outdoor recreation over the next 5 years and establish goals to move toward that future.

Vernon County's Outdoor Recreation Plan is actively being developed with participation by County committees, outdoor recreation entities county-wide and most importantly, the community. We would appreciate your participation!

Last day to fill out the following survey is November 3, 2020.

The survey may take 5 minutes to complete.
